A Tradition of Brewing and Blessing

Father Martin Grassel, O.S.B., general manager and head brewer at Benedictine Brewery, recently shared insights on the monastic tradition of brewing beer on CFN Live. Rooted in centuries of history, the beer crafted at Mount Angel Abbey follows the ancient monastic tradition and is imbued with a priestly blessing at every stage of production. Benedictine Brewery and Taproom, located at Mount Angel Abbey, stands as a unique testament to this rich heritage, crafting beer with a higher purpose.

Formation for Priesthood and Service

For over a century, Mount Angel Seminary has been a cornerstone of formation for thousands of priests, serving millions of Catholics worldwide. As the oldest seminary in the western United States, Mount Angel offers a comprehensive education through its College of Liberal Arts, Graduate School of Theology, and Doctor of Ministry Program. Rooted in the Benedictine ethos, the seminary prepares men for the priesthood through human, spiritual, intellectual, and pastoral formation.

Through rigorous academic programs and a commitment to the Rule of St. Benedict, Mount Angel Seminary shapes men into servant-leaders for the Church and society.

Life at Mount Angel Abbey

At Mount Angel Abbey, Benedictine monks live according to the rhythm of prayer and work laid out by St. Benedict. Gathering six times daily for prayer, the monks center their lives around the Divine Office and the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Embracing the values of silence, contemplation, and communal living, the monks engage in a variety of apostolic works, including pastoral ministry, education, and hospitality. Through personal presence, friendship, and fraternity, the monks support one another on their journey toward holiness and service.
